j Harry Vanlon, in company with I George Duncan, played a remarkable | record round of 66 for the altered [ course of the Prestwich Golf Club, Man- \ Chester, despite one or two strokes of j ill-luck, a few weeks ago. The chain - (pion might well have reached the turn |in the phenomenal score of 29 strokes, i for he was actually 5 under 4's going j to the ninth, which short hole Duncan I accomplished in two. Here however, Var- | don drove out of bounds, and, although he had only 180 yds to cover, took live. I At the twelfth hole even worse trouble I overtook him. He started off by hitting I the trees, which stand-right in the j centre of the course, with his tee shot. j Playing out into a bad lie, he was short with his third, and then took three I putts, six being recorded for the hole. With these exceptions, wonderful golf was represented by an astonishing succession of threes and fours. Duncan also accomplished a fine round, taking 69. I The figures were: —Vardon: Out, 3 4 3 '.■14334 5—32; in, 4 3 6 4 3 4 4 3 3—34; j total, 66. Duncan: Out, 3 35354442 1—33; in, 44443444 5—36; total, 69.
