LADIES' HOCKEY.

THE END OF THE S PIECE. The competitiokis of the Ladies' Hockey Association closed with the advent of the English ladies' hockey team, and never has a season enjoyed such eclat and triumph during its last few departing days as the present one. The victory of Canterbury in their match with the English team will long be remembered by everyone; but we cannot gloat all the time, so perhaps it would be interesting to the hockey readers of THE SUN to know the result of the competitions. Hinemoa. romped through the senior competition—their only formidable opponents being Waimairi A., who put up a splendid fight against • them early in the season. Sydenham A secured the top place in, the junior competition, and to them great credit is due as this is only their second season. The following are the points for the senior competition—the points s of the junior competition are not available yet:—

The. grand finale falls on Saturday, October 3, at Lancaster Park, when England plays New Zealand. The New Zealand team has been chosen, and two Canterbury girls have been selected for it, Misses M. Pearce and S. Kruse. They leave for Wellington to-night where the first test match will be played on Wednesday next. Both teams leave for Lyttelton the same evening to play the .second test match in Christchureh. The New Zealand team consists of the very best New Zealand players, and a splendid contest should result, especially the second game, as the players will be more accustomed to one another's play, and a better, combined struggle should eventuate. After the splendid game .. with Canterbury there is no need to re'peat the praises already sung of the English team, so the tremendous crowd that witnessed the Canterbury match should turn out to a man and come and see England play New Zealand, and no I doubt they will find it just as enjoyable.
