SUMNER NOTES.
BEDCLIFFS SCHOOL COMMITTEE. The usual monthly meeting of the Redcliffs School Committee was held on Monday evening. There were present: Mr S. H. Cummins -tfehairman), Mes- . dames Sampson and Moon, Messrs G. Hines, W. A. Smith, F. A. Drayton, and W, J. Mulcock. The headmaster's report stated that there were 86 on the roll, with.an average attendance of 74. It was reported that the outside conveniences were in an unsatisfactory state, and it was decided to refer the matter to the Education Board, ami at the same time to bring before the Board the question of ■ providing* a school bell. The new class-room is expected to be completed within the next fortnight. A deputation, representing the North Canterbury School Committees' Association, consisting of Messrs D. Lumsden (Sumner), C. V. Harvey (Waltham), and,. J. Butterfield (Sydenham), waited upon the committee, asked them to join the Association, and explained various reasons which would, be to the advantage of the committee. The chairman promised to forward the committee's decision. BOWLING CLUB. *■■ A very successful social evening was held amongst the members of the Bowling Club in the pavilion on Monday evening. The evening was spent in playiug cards, each party choosing their own game. The proceeds were devoted to the furnishing fund.
