AMATEUR ATHLETICS.
UNIVERSITY STEEPLECHASE.
There was a field of 21 runners in the
•-•anterbury College Amateur Athletic *#tub's .annual steeplechase, held on the Cashmere Hills over a course of about six miles, which included the fording of the Heatheote River. The competition was keen, and the steeplechase was v©*y interesting. With a handicap of 4min, R. M. Jones won, he finishing the distance in 39min 7see. F. Parsonson Hmin was second, in 40min 20see; and ;■■€?.■■€/. Hill 4min third, in 40min 22sec. '■•■•. Barker-Jmin and H. S. Richards scr . were bracketed in fourth x>lace. IT. S. 'Biehafds secured the prize for fastest time, 36min 27sec. The second fastest • *h»e was secured by McCalluni scr, 38j»ia 44sec.
