TRAMWAYS BOARD.
WORKS COMMENCED. \ A meeting of the Cliristeliurcli Tramways Board was held yesterday afternoon. Present: Messrs J. A. Flesher (chairman), A. W. Beaven, G. T. Booth, H. Pearce, and C. M. Gray, and Dr Thacker.
The Works and Traffic Committee reported that it had put in hand several works, with the object, of assisting in the unemployed difficulty. There were about fifty casual labourers now on the pay roll. The revenue account showed that earnings from operations for the four weeks ending September 6 (in* eluding Grand National Week) amounted to £11,430, compared with £9380 for the previous four weeks. , The operating expenses for the period were £5916, compared with £5900 for the previous four weeks. Deducting interest and sinking fund, and depreciation and renewals, the surplus was shown at £1097.
• A letter was received from the Woolston Borough Council, stating that it had received complaints about dust, kicked up by the board's track cleaner blowing into shops, and suggesting that tjie lines, be watered before they are cleaned. The manager, Mr Frank Thompson, stated that watering of the lines had been .started. ' ■ , v . I The complaint will be attended to.
