McLean INSTITUTE.

A meeting of the Board of Governors of the McLean Institute was held yesterday afternoon at Holly Lea, Avhen there were present: The Mayor, Mr H. Holland (chairman), Bishop Grimes, Bishop Julius, Rev. P. N. Knight, 8.A./ Rev. John Mackenzie, M.A., Messrs J. C. Adams, H. W. Bishop, Fred HorrelJ, and Mrs A C. Sandstein. A letter was received from the Premier, the Rt. Hon. W. F. Massey, acknowledging the receipt of a letter from the board, urging that the scope of the War Contributions Validation Act be extended to cover contributions to relief funds other than the Empire Defence Fund, and stating in reply that the matter had received the careful consideration of Cabinet, when it was decided not to extend the provisions of the Act at present." The Rev. John Mackenzie wrote tenj dering his resignation as a member of ithe board. In doing so he stated that amongst the many circumstances which made his removal from Christchurch difficult and painful he counted as not least his withdrawal from the work in which he had formed so many friendships and in which, he had.be : en able to help in some small measure; in laying the foundations of what was destined to be one of the greatest and most influential philanthropic institutes in the Dominion. • The Mayor, Bishop Julius, Mr H. W. Bishop, Bishop Grimes, Mr Horrelland the Rev. P. N. Knight referred with regret to Mr Mackenzie's projected departure and it was decided that the resignation be accepted with regret, and that the board place on record .their appreciation of his services as an original member of the board, and wish him God's blessing in his new sphere. Accounts amounting to £1578 10/1 were passed for payment.
