Derby/. Very fair acceptances were receivec last evening for the Geraldine * Racing Club's annual meeting,\which takes place on Thursday and Friday next. There were only two .defections from the Geraldine Cup, and, though not by any means a high-class lot, the eight that stand their ground should be capable of? furnishing an interesting contest. Big fields remain in the Ohapi Handicap, Belfield Welter, and ' both trotting events, so those who intend patronising the fixture are assured of an interesting afternoon's sport. It is the general opinion that this season's batch of two-year-olds being prepared at Ricearton include an unusually large number M promising colts and fillies. Amongst those that have shown the best form so far may be mentioned Bonny Dream (Boniform— Dreamer), Spangle (Martian—Nantes), Battle Eve ' (Martian —To-morrow)-, Flowjerette (San Francisco—Kirriemuir)'} Deltonio (Delaware —Lady Melton), and Nones (Martian —Loveloi<-n). The Chokebore team for the Wanganui Meeting, consisting qf the three-year-olds Don . Francisco and First Flight, got. away under charge of H. Cutts last evening. Nightwatch, who was to have formed one of the team, had to be left behind on account of lameness. Mr E. J. Watt's Derby representative, Mountain King, will be ridden in the A.J.C. blue ribbon by that successful horseman W. H. McLachlan, while the New Zealander R. Berry may have the mount on Bon Ton in the Epsom and Metropolitan Handicaps. King George's colt Friar Marcus started a hot favourite when he won the.Prince of Wales's Stakes at GoodAvood on July 30, but he only beat the second favourite, Snow Marten, by a head. The accident to Mousme at Caulfield, reported by cable, was caused by her owner-trainer (Mr E. Connolly) working her, in company with Anna Carlovna's sister Honorine, on a gallop that was closed. Both horses dashed into a hurdle across the course. Honorine got off with a shaking, but Mousme fractured her near shoulder. An attempt is being made to save her for stud purposes. Don Caesar has made a splendid recovery from the injury he sustained to one of his hocks a fortnight ago. He is now being given slow jogging work again, and his trainer has every hope of having the brilliant son of Prince Imperial fit to take part in the New Zealand Trotting Cup. TEMPLAR.
