' Robert Yesey, on remand, appeared, changed with the theft, of a bicycle, valued, at £l2, the property of George William Ford. Mr Donnelly, who appeared, for the accused, pleaded not guilty. Vesey was before the Court about a week ago for stealing a bicycle. On that charge he pleaded guilty, and was, ordered to go to the Salvation Army Home for six months. The bicycle inV question - this time was stolen some time ago, before the last offence was committed. The hearing of the case was further remanded until to-morrow. BY-LAW BREACHES. Dr J. C. Bradshaw, charged with driving a motor-car at an excessive speed over the intersection of Colombo, Gladstone, and Wordsworth streets, Sydenham,] explained that although he had been driving for six. or seven years he had never been found fault with'-"be-fore. He didn't know before that there was a restriction of six miles per hour, and was of the opinion that nine out often drivers of cars must break the bylaw every time they went out. A fine of 10/- and costs w*'ts imposed. Edwin Fox, for driving a motor-car over the Bank of New, Zealand corner at an excessive speed, was fined 10/and costs. For driving a motor-car along Riecarton road at an excessive speed, Oalcleigli Greenwood was fined 10/- and costs. On a similar- charge, William Saunders, who did not .-appeal', was fined 20/and the Bench remarking on the want of courtesy in the non-appearance. Ernest Adcoclc, for ({riving a taxi-cab at an excessive speed in Cathedral Square, was fined.. 10/- and costs. Andrew K.eiiph, for leaving a -motorcar in Hereford street on the evening of the 14th without lights, was fined 10/and costs.

• Thomas Knight (Mr T. W. Rowe), who appeared, charged with a breach of the tramway by-laws, in that he travelled on the platform of a tramway ear on July .'VJ, pleaded not, guilty. Evidence was taken from the trameonduetor, who stated that defendant, when asked to go inside the can and take a seat, instead of standing on.the platform, had said, "I won't shift for you, or anybody like, you!" There had been a number of A'acant seats in the car at the time, and when defendant had refused to shift from the rear platform, and had used bad language, he had been forced to put him off the car at Cashel street. There had been no violence used, and defendant had been under the influence of drink at the time.

Mr Rowe called a considerable amount of rebutting evidence,..but tlie Bench felt satisfied that a breach of .the bylaws had been committed, and imposed a fine of 30/- and costs.' In the course of his defence, Mr Rowe intimated that a civil action for assault was pending against the tratueonductor.
