The Hospital Committee's report recommended that owing to the amount of work passing through the Pathological Department a junior laboratory assistant be obtained from Edinburgh. The committee also reported that Mr Cholmondeley's solicitors had intimated that he did not propose to do anything further in the matter of the erection of a Convalescent Home for Children. So far np definite arrangement had been made for the position of honorary surgeon to the out-patient department. It had been suggested that the board should appoint a special department for the treatment of the diseases of women. The matter was referred to the honorary staff for an opinion, and the reply stated that the staff did not consider that any further appointment was necessary, as'the work could well be carried on by the honorary staff and the medical superintendent of the hospital. The report was adopted. . CHRONIC CASES.

A report was received from the committee appointed by the board to confer with the committee of the Hospital Lady Visitors' Association regarding the proposed erection of wards for chronic cases. The president of the association had said that the association had £IOOO in hand, and plans whereby she thought another would be secured. The committee also held a promise from the late Mrs Townend of a donation of £IOOO, and" this amount would, no doubt, be paid by the trustees of the estate. The subsidy on the£3ooo indicated would bring the total to £6600, to which would be added the bequest of £SOO from Miss Campbell, with subsidy thereon, £250, making the total that would probably be available £7350. It. was not supposed that this sum would provide furniture, but it would probably erect a suitable building. The committee's report outlined details agreed upon by the conference, and recommended the board to have a building of twp stories erected. It was decided to have a sketch of such a building prepared, the plan to be for a building not costing more than £7350. '[ FINANCE. The Finance Committee reported that it had passed accounts for £3490 2/6. The secretary had reported that, after providing for all cheques drawn to date, the board would have a debit balance of £4436 1 but to meet this, subsidy would probably be received from the Government before the end of the month amounting to £3790 5/6. ; The plans for the extension of the orphanage had been finally approved by the Department, and the Minister has given his consent to the erection of the building. Tenders would be received in time for the next meeting of the committee. The New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club had agreed to the board's terms

with regard to an extended area of the Twigger Estate, and a lease was being prepared for signature.
