COUNTY COUNCILS.
SELWYN. At the monthly meeting of the Selwvn County Council there were present: —Mr K. Wilson (chairman) and Crs. Hockeridge, Watson, Payne, Murchison, Westenra, Hall, and Andrew. It was decided to put in two concrete culverts on Macintosh's road, and to put concrete tops on water-race culverts on Mitchell's road and Leach's track, and to put a sheep bridge over the water-race on Early's Road. The following tenders were accepted: ' Repairs to Glentunnel bridge, T. Stevenson; shingling Ardlui Road, .1. Hart; shingling Dunsandel Road, J. Plew. The Selwyn Plantation Board wrote stating that the council could open a gravel pit on Reserve 1765 upon securely fencing not more than one acre, and placing a gate on the road, and also obtaining the written permission of the lessees. The offer was not accepted. Messrs Bates and Neil wrote asking for work to be carried out on the St. Helens Road, to give access to Run 39. It was" decided to put in two culverts, and widen the track on the road. Mr A. Y. Dennis was granted permission to plough the sides of roads opposite his property at Glenroy in order to destroy gorse. • It was decided that all future applications to plough sides of roads for the destruction of gorse must be accompanied by a deposit of one shilling per chain, such deposit to be returned on the satisfactory completion of the work. The Public Works Department was granted permission to place telephone and emergency store boxes at several places along the transmission line to Lake Coleridge. Mr H. A. Boyle was granted permission to alter water-race along the Downs Road.
