The Warrimoo continues her voyage to Melbourne via Dunedin, Bluff, and Hobart. this evening, being due at Melbourne on August 29.

Captain .J. Drewette, who has been master of the Warrimoo for some time, came ashore at "Wellington on Thursday, and joined the. Mokoia in place, of Captain McLean. Mr H. Tozer, second o dicer of the Victoria, signed off the vessel's articles on Thursday, in order to proceed to Auckland, where he i.to join H.M.S. Torch as a sub-lieutenant. "When the F. and S. line's steamer Nairnshire, which arrived at Wellington on Thurs- , day morning, has landed the local portion of her cargo, states the 41 Post,' she* will proceed to Auckland at the beginning of next •week to discharge a part cargo there. During the voyage of the A'erdala from New York to Auckland, unusually good ■weather was experienced until midway in the run across the Great Southern Bight, when an exceedingly violent gale was encountered. Fortunately the boisterous weather lasted for only 24 hours, but in that time the ship was constantly swept bv huge seas, and the open decking near the bridge was torn up ami smashed. The remainder of the voyage, which occupied 83 days, was uneventful. A callwas made at Durban en route.

Continuing her voyage from St. John (•Canada) to "Wellington, the New Zealand ■Shipping Company's chartered .steamer Southern sailed from Auckland on Wednesday afternoon. When the vessel was about 200 miles from the scene of the_Titanic disaster, relates an Auckland exchange, she had a very dangerous encounter with fog and ice. floes. The vessel left Kngland on the run across the Atlantic on March 23 last, and all went well until she was in the vicinity of Cape Race. Here the Southern ran into a thick field of ice and a dense fog, Mas compelled to stop her engines, and for four days she floated about with the ice." A light breeze which then sprang up cleared the fog and enabled her to proceed. Ice was again encountered near the mouth of the St. Lawrence, but there was no fog, and the Southern steamed slowly through the field to port. When the vessel

returns to London from New Zealand ports she will be docked for examination and repairs. LIGHTHOUSE-KEEPERS' CHANGES. The Public Service Journal announces the following changes among lighthouse-keepers: Mr G. T. Emmons, assistant lightkeeper, Cape i Palliser, to assistant keeper-in-cliarge, French Pass; Mr P. Malthus, assistant lightkeeper, Somes's sland, to Farewell Spit; Mr John McVeigh, assistant lightkeeper, Farewell Spit, to Somes's Island; Mr J. Anderson, principal lightkeeper, Manukau South Head, to Waipapa Point; Mr G. F. Marlow, assistant lightkeeper, Manukau South Head, to principal lightkeeper, Puysegur Point. The Anchor liner arrived at Lyttelton from Nelson this morning with a further detachment of Nelson' troops, who will join the men already at Addington. There were 18 men, two officers, and 52 horses. A thick mantle of fog descended on Lyttelton this morning, wrapping it like a pall. The consequence was that several vessels \vhicli were due from the north were delayed in their arrival. The ferry steamer Waliine managed to get in shortly after her usual hour, but the Warrimoo," also from Wellington, did not arrive, until after 11 o'clock. The fog showed no signs of dissipating at noon.
