PROGRESS OF LYTTELTON.
To the Editor of THE SUN. Sir,—l see -by'your paper this eA T enhigr that our very progressive Borough (Jounc.il have turned down another scheme to make Lyttelton an up-to-date I town in the way of srjort, besides beau- | titying one of our main streets. That |is the third time they have done so.. j Just look at the. place now, or any other | street in the town. They are worse [than the slums in England. With all the wild cat schemes the council have - | 'on hand, surely they ought to go onebetter in Oxford Street and erect, say a water shoot, or something like that, and put our expert town planner, or the town clerk, in charge. Sir, you have only to take a walk around the port and see for yourself. The roads are aeredit to any body. Then the beautiful footpaths, and the fences, which are put up.any how.. And, there is the public, library,, or. public reading room,-, which" gets such a lo£ of looking after.. Can you wonder"' -wHat--makes the port go ahead'the way it does, with all those men of broad>n»in,ds and comprehensive schemes who compose our "council. I. think it is high time for a. public meeting 1 to ask our ctiunc'il ; to explain how far they ,are in the motorbus to Corsair, but i u all these progressive schemes which are eating up theratepayers' money.— l am, etc., PROGRESS OF THE, RIGHT KIND.
