SCHOOL COMMITTEES.
At the monthly meeting of the New Brighton School Committee, the secretary of the Education . Board wrote [stating that th©..architect had been, instructed to prepare plana,for a new infant school, and that an application for a grant would be made as soon as possible. The headmaster's report for the four weeks ending July ill was.as follows—Roll number, 421; attendance, average ?>7?>, highest. 4195, lowest, 338. The report was adopted. Captain Owles (hon. secretary of the School Fife and Drum Band) said he had a very pleasant duty to perform in handing over the instruments to the committee, together with a cheque for £9 16/5, being the credit balance remaining after the instruments .had been paid for. The chairman, on behalf of the committee, -thanked Captain Owles and the gentlemen 'associated with him in obtaining the necessary funds for the purchase of the instruments. It was decided that the instruments be placed in the care of the headmaster, the credit balance of £9 16/5 to be held in trust by the school committee for the use of the band.
