| NOTES. Shipments from New Zealand have suffered considerably from fires on shipboard in Recent years (says the Sydney "Shipping List.") Last year the Matatua was on fire at | Timarn, in February, while in the following month there was a disastrous .fire on the Tura- | kina, at Rio, which cost underwriters some- [ tiling like £300,000. In 1909 the Paparoa i had, a serious fire at Last Palmas, and the [ Otaki was on fire when she reached the Thames. In addition to smaller outbreaks, there have been numerous cases of cargo destroyed by fire while awaiting shipment at 1 various ports in New Zealand. Quite recently the Waimate put into Stanley, F. 1., on fire, on the voyage from Wellington to London, via Monte Video. She is a vessel of 5610 tons register, built in 1896, and insured on a value of £40,000. As she is usually employed in the trade between Canada and New Zealand, the policy is eeffcted on only total loss conditions, so that any claims on the ship for particular or general average will fall on the owners. The Italian ship Eurasia, four months out from Marseilles, with a cargo of tiies, arrived at "Wellington on Wednesday. The Eurasia, which is a vessel of 1757 tons burthen, is commanded hv Captain Olivari, and carries a crew of 21 all told. All were well after their four months and more at sea, and the captain reported a voyage which had been free from exciting incidents in the way of storms or mishaps. The worst weather was met with when nearing the coast of New Zealand. The Eurasia, which is still at anchor in the stream, will discharge part of her cargo at the northern port, and the remainder at Auckland and Lyttelton. Included among the latest charters announced is the four-masted schooner Winslow, which had been fixed to load a cargo of lumber at a Pacific Coast port for New Zealand. Other vessels coming on a similar mission are the four-masted schooner Eric, 498 tons (to sail) and the schooner A. M. Campbell, 486 tons,, which sailed from Puget Sound on July 20 for Wellington. The Moeraki, which' arrived from Sydney, via Wellington, this morning, brought transhipments ex the steamers Vinstra, Tango Maru, Sonoma, Orontes, Allinga, and Fazilka, the principal lines being as follow: —1154 felloes, 52 cases of sardines, 10 bags, of salt, 57 packages of tea, 2 packages of candles, 32 bags of sugar, 317 boxes fruit, 15 cases of wine, 5 cases of benedictine, 10 cases of champagne, 42 ingots of copper. 50 sacks of flour, 17 drums of caustic soda, 45 cases of mineral water, 2 cases of methylated spirits, 10 cases. of infants' food, 20 bags of rice, 15 sacks of haricot beans, 5 casks of borax, 24 cases of varnish, 290 csises of jsoap, and a large quantity of sundries.
