BOROUGH COUNCILS.

SPREYDON. | The fortnightly meeting of the Spreydon Borough Council was held last evening, when there were present: The Mayor (Mr G. R. Whiting), and Crs W. H. Winsor, T. Woods, E. Hayes, G. Rudd, D. Sykes, S. Hancock, and A. Manhire. The financial statement showed balances as follows: —District Fund Account, credit 0f.£156 0/7; Loan Account, debit of £157 2/4; Shingle Pit Account, credit of £37 16/1; Loan Interest Account, credit of £25. Accounts amounting to £53 7/7 were passed for payment. The Works Committee reported that since last meeting four building permits had been issued, to the value of £1375. The report was adopted. The Mayor reported that £l6 had been subscribed to assist the destitute family in the borough, for whom a fund had been opened by the council, and that a concert had been arranged for, to be held on Saturday evening uext, in the Somerfield Street Hall. A splendid programme would be provided, and a's a large number of tickets had been sold already the fund should be considerably augmented. The Mayor reported at length concerning the recent Municipal Conference held at Wellington, and, on the motion of Cr Manhire, he was thanked for having represented the council at the conference, and for his report on the proceedings.
