CASH ATHLETICS.

NORTH CANTERBURY CENTRE. The annual meeting of the North Canterbury Centre of the New Zealand Athletic, and Cycling Union was held last evening. .Mr R, S. Pearson presided over a fair attendance of delegates. The annual report traversed the vear's doings comprehensively. During the year some eighteen clubs had held sports meetings and road races. The number of clubs affiliated was 22, nine clubs having joined during the year. In view of the heavy expenditure, most of which would not be recurring, the financial position of the centre must be considered very satisfactorv. There was a credit balance of £ll 15/2. Thanks were accorded to THE SUN for its assistance to athletics. The report was adopted. Appreciative reference was made to the work of the secretary (Mr G. S. Simpson). Officers were elected as follow: —President, Mr M. Dixon; vice-presidents, Messrs H. C. Revell and R. S. Pearson; chief consul, Mr A. ,T. Barritt; viceconsul, Mr ,). A. Mealings; permit committee, Messrs A. .1. Barritt, L. G. BlackwelJ, and G. S. Simpson; handicappers, Messrs A. J. Barritt (athletics) and J. A. Mealings (cycling); hou. secretary Mr G. S. Simpson; hon. treaMr R. Hayes; lion, auditor, Mr L. G. Black well. It was decided that the executive shall consist of all the delegates from the affiliated clubs. TIMARU TO CHRISTCHURCH.

It was also decided that the Timaru to Christchurch cycle road race this year should be held on October 17, provided that the necessary support is given. The Mt. Egmont race will be held on October 1, and a. Palmerston North road race, over 40 miles, a few days later than that. Messrs M. Dixon. A.'.J. Barritt, J. Cairns, R. S. Pearson, A. Milne, R. Hayes, and G. S. Simpson were appointed the sub-committee for the race.

A recommendation that a sports meeting be held in Christchurch during the coming season was referred to the Permit Committee, in conjunction with Mr Pearson, to report to the next monthly meeting of the centre. Mr Hayes stated thftt the Halswell Club desired to donate probably £5 to the Timaru-ChriStchureh road race funds, provided that it was allocated as a special prize for riders belonging to the Halswell Club. The matter was referred to the road race sub-committee.
