TELEPHONE EXCHANGE BALL.

rOURTH ANNUAL EVEN^. The fourth annual ball in connection with the Christchureh Telephone Exchange staff was held in the Alexandra Hall last night, and proved a very happy and well-planned function. Indeed; the general opinion seems to be that 'it was; the most successful dance held since the " Telephone Ball" became a recognised annual function. The liall was a picture, being lit with festoons of electric lights shaded in the semblance of" pink "flowers, through which the light filtered with softly subdued effect. Here and there a touch of blue was effectively introduced, and baskets of ferns depended from the ceiling. The stage was bowered in greenery and branches of peach blossom. The drawing room and lounge were comfortably arranged with easy chairs, small tables, etc, bright fires burning cheerfully in the grates. Glaret cup and light refreshments were available all the evening, and supper, for which Matthews 1 catered," was served about 10:30. Music was supplied by Wells's orchestra, the introduction of the 'cello, which is not usually included in the band, being a great improvement in this already excellent combination. The committee were: Misses Holmes, Hewer, Hansam, Mosley, Rowland, Peacocks, Lancaster, Messrs Patton, Sneesby, Greenwood, Queree, and Ward, with Mr Y. C. Wealleans as honorary secretary and treasurer. Messrs Greenwood and Patton acted as masters of ceremonies with every success.
