RICCARTON. The Riccarton Bor»ugh Council . mot last night, when there were present —the Mayor (Mr J. Brown) ami Crs A. D. Ford, T. Waddell, E. J. Foster, W. Helliwell, W. J. Edwards, J. Dempster, G. D. White, and T. J. Stokes. • The report of the Finance, Works, Bylaw, and Sanitary Committee, stating that it had decided to open the Riccarton Town Hall at 7.30 o'clock next Friday evening, August 8, when a social would be held, was approved. The delegates appointed to enquire into the maintenance of Park roads reported that they had adopted the following resolution: —"That the City Council do whatever work is immediately necessary to put the roads in order at a cost not to exceed £SO, the City Council to pay 50 per cent., the Waimairi County Council 25 per cent., and the Riccarton Borough Council 25 per cent. —Approved. The solicitor to the Municipal Association wrote in answer to a question put by the council, stating that the council was permitted by law to hold public dances in the Town Hall and make it a source of revenue by charging for admission. —Received. The Prohibition Party wrote asking for the use of the Town Hall for a public meeting on the evening of Saturday, August 29. —The application was referred to a joint committee to be dealt with in conjunction with others. The City Council asked permission to erect poles carrying electric power on the borough's side of the roads making the. boundary between the city and the borough, for the reason that the city side was occupied by the telegraph poles. — The request was referred back to the Lighting Committee with power to act. The financial statement for the fortnight ended July 27 showed receipts amounting to £IS2 2/7, accounts amount- . ing to £202 5/7. The Finance Committee also recommended that Brandon, Prince, and St. David Streets should be renamed Brandon Street. —Approved. | -'■
