(From Our Special Correspondents.) DUNSANDEL. A most successful ball, under the auspices of the Dunsandel Football Club was held in the Town Hall on Friday Bight. There was a laTge attendance, about forty-five couples being present. Mr T. Jainiesou acted scs master of ceremonies. Splendid music was supplied by McDonald's Baud. FOOTBALL. Flaying at Dunsandel in the Elles-mere-Sub-union Competition on Saturday,' Ir well defeated the home team by 8 points to nil.' Mr J. Anderson was referee. SPRINGFIELD. On Friday night, at.the School, there was a-large attendance at a progressive euchre evening, when the members of the Annat Social Club were entertained loy the, local Card Club. Over -30 guests arrived, and altogether 21 tables,were engaged dn plav. The first prizes were won~bV Miss GiUett (Springfield) and Mr E* Boocock- (Annat), while the * * boobv''" prizes were secured by Miss ©. Mellraith (Springfield) and Mr J. E. Hewitt (Annat). AMBERLEY. ; On Saturday evening a very enthusiastic social evening was held in the Oddfellows' Hall, when some three hundred people assembled to see the free labourers and special constables of the Amberley distiiet presented with medals lis * mementoes - of their assistance in .maintaining peace and order at the strike in November last. A large gathering of residents from Horrelvi'lle and surrounding districts met on Friday night fk the Methodist Church to say farewell to Mr C. R. I Sheat, who is leaving the district for Otago. Martin occupied the chair, and spoke concerning Mr Sheat's sterling qualities as a preacher and adminJ istrator in connection with the Okoka Methodist Circuit. As local preacher, circuit steward, Sunday-school superintendent, and trustee, Mr Sheat had occupied a position in the church w T hieh would be hard to fill. Messrs Pearce (Okoka), Lindsay (Swannanoa), Dennis (Horrelville), and Sileoek (Bible Class) expressed the feelings of those they represented. The chairman,- on behalf of the circuit, presented Mr Sheat with a purse of sovereigns, which he hoped would enable the brother to add to his library and, consequently, his usefulness. The following items were rendered: Solos, Miss F. Horrell, Mrs Martin, Mr Ironsides (2); reading, Mrs Forrest; recitations, Mr Downs and Miss Irene Ironsides. Games were played with great enthusiasm, and refreshments were served by the ladies, after which all joined in "singing '' Will ye no come back again?" KIRWEE. The annual meeting of the Kirwee Athletic Club was held on Saturday evening, Mr Lorgelly: presiding. Mr J. Hartle wrote resigning the position of' secretary, as he-: had left the- district. Robertson offered a special prize of one guiuea for the best-dressed juvenile dancer. Mr D. C. Mcßeath presented a special prize of one guinea for the best-dressed Highlander, and Mr J. Riordan offered a fat wether for the I guessing competition. Votes of thanks Were accorded the donors of special prizes. ' Messrs S. Robertson, R. Burgess, and W. McKay were appointed a sub-com-mittee to arrange the Highland events. The secretary reported that the concert held to raise funds for music on sports day had realised the sum of £l3. Great credit was due to the promoters, Messrs W. McKay, Lorgelly, and Miss Ross.

It was decided .to hold the next sports meeting on Labour Day, October 20.

Mr S. Robertson moved: —"That a record be made of the club's appreciation of the valuable assistance rendered, both financially and otherwise, by the president, Mr J. N. Lawry.'' The motion was seconded by Mr R. Wilson,* and carried by acclamation.
