BOROUGH COUNCILS.

NEW BRIGHTON. The fortnightly meeting of the NewBrighton Borough Council waslield last evening,- the Mayor, Mr C. ,H. AVinny, in the chair. There were also present Crs J. Ainger. A. Chidgey, d, Ashley, O. V. Bergh, C. Israelson, F. Kibblewhite, C. Withell, A. W. Owles. The financial statement showed receipts amounting to £385 9/4. This sum included £4 12/6 for building fees. Nine building permits were issued, valued at £I6OO, making the total to date 36, of a value of £7OOI. Accounts amounting to £.13."5 10/4 were passed for payment. The bank balance (debtor) was stated at £lB2 2/9, and deposits at £1334 3/6. The amount of 1913-14 rates due was £3757 17/11, and collected £3356 10/6, leaving a balance outstanding of £4Ol 7/5. The Finance Committee recommended that the following rates should be struck for the current year:— General 3d, lighting -gd, Hospital and Charitable Aid l-10d, Christchurch drainage gd, No. 1 Loan l-3d, No. 2 Id, No. 3 9-10 d, annual sanitation charge 12/-, also a special rate of 5-32nds of a penny-in the pound for the Christchurch Domains Board levy, Bower Bridge Repairs, and Page's Road maintenance. The application from the New Brighton Association for the usual grant of £lO was referred to the ■ Finance Committee. Dr H. Chesson, District Health Officer, wrote informing the council that there was nothing in the statutes which made it compulsory for the periodical disinfection of houses, let furnished. Disinfection could only be enforced iii the event of a case of infectious disease. There was, however, lie stated, no reason why the council should not make a by-law under Section .'M4K of the Municipal Corporations, Act, making such periodical disinfection compulsory in the borough. The Tramway Board wrote, stating .that any additional tram stops increased the' difficulty already peculiar to the New Brighton, line of running a satisfactory time table. For this reason the request for. a stop for inward cars at George Street could not. as yet be compiled" with. The board, the letter stated, had recently decided to instal a section of double track between Aldwin's Road aud Wainoni, and when the effect of this had been experienced further consideration would be given to the request. WOOLSTON. A meeting of the Woolston Borough Council was hold last night, when there were present the Mayor (Mr .). .1. Graham), and Councillors Y. Mountford, G. Lillev, W. Fuller, F. Newton, .1. Richardson, T. Radcliffe, L. Hart, and M. Dalziel. COMMITTEE REPORTS. The Bridge Committee recommended that the Engineer of the Heathcote Road

Board should be asked to prer pare plans for a bridge;over the HoatSf cote River, : subject to; certain; specific cations of the Council. —Adopted. CORRESPONDENCE.' Mr John Richardson notified the; Council that the Drainage Board had; decided to widen the bridge over Bell's Creek on Richardson Terrace at a cost; of £BO, the Woolston Borough's share to be £24.—Received. The financial report showed receipts' amounting to £79 12/-, and a debit bal-v anee-of £139 1/9. There was a debit of £1075 19/8 on the Temporary Loans Account. Accounts amounting to £142; 1/6 were passed for payment. —Adopted.-. The tender of the Gleumore Brick: and Tile Company for the supply of; road metal was -accepted. The company offered to supply metal on the south side of Ferry Road at 6/- per yard, and at (5/6 per yard in all other; parts of the borough. Delivered at the • rusher the prices was 4/6 per yard. The company would not undertake i> \ make delivery of ,any special quantity | per day, and would not deliver unless: free from wheel tax. It was. resolved, on the motion of the Mayor, to call on the Government to enlarge 4he AVoolston Station, and to build a goods-shed, the Heathcote County Council to be asked to support the request. LYTTELTON. At last night's meeting of the Lyt- j telton Borough Council there were present the Mayor (Mr ,1. R, Webb), Crs W. Radcliffe, .1. T. Morton, W. T. Foster, M. J. Miller, ,1. Guthrie, F. J. Page, J. T. Collins, T. F. Walklin, and N.C. Schumacher. The Estates Committee recommeuded; that Mr W. Taylor be granted a site having a frontage of 21ft 6in in Oxford Street, at an annual rental of 12/- on a 21. years'. Glasgow lease, subject to a revaluation of the rent by arbitration every seven years, and that the plans of buildings be approved by the council before any buildings were erected. The report was adopted. The Finance Committee recommended: that as the resignations of both the borough sinking funds commissioners were now in the hands of the council, the borough funds could best be administered in. the-hands' of the boroughsolicitor and the Town Clerk for the time being, and that the borough solicitor be asked if he would be prepared to
