The tone of Mr Asquith's and Mr Bonar Law's speeches in the House of Commons yesterday leave no doubt whatever that the Irish difficulty is as good as settled. The Iftiropean situation gives both parties the best of excuses for accepting a compromise, and there should be no further difficulty about the boundaries of the area to be excluded from the operations of the Home Rule Bill. It is eminently satisfactory that a solution should be reached along these lines, as it will enable Britain to go into the war if necessities demand it, undistracted by any internal troubles. The powerful volunteer forces in Ireland should also prove valuable auxiliaries to the regular Armv and. the Territorials.
