HINDUS CLIMB DOWN.

A DAY OF EXCITEMENT.

WISER COUNSELS PREVAIL.

By Cable.—rrets Association. —Copyright, 'VANCOUVER, July 21.

The Hindus have agreed to leave peacefully upon the Government terms. After a day of excitement, in which the Rainbow's guns were trained on the Komagata Maru, and armed military men, militia, and special police were read?* to'descend on the Hindus, peace was arranged .through the good offices of the leaders of the shore Hindus. The latter, after negotiating throughout the day, induced . the Komagata Hindus to agree" to the Immigration Department's offer to provide provisions and medicine sufficient for the return journey, if the Hindus left immediately. Arrangements were thereupon made to raise steam. It is believed that the Komagata Maru will depart within 24 hours. Mr Burrell represented the Cabinet at Sir R. L. Borden's special request.

It was known after a settlement had been effected that Sir R. L. Borden had been in communication with the Colonial Ofiice, from which he received a requesi to exhaust every peaceable means before resorting to force.

Mr Burrell acted accordingly, although local opinion, which was inflamed by t.hs recent favoured the most vigorous measures against the Hindus.

PREPARING TO LEAVE

WHERE IS THE OTHER SHIP?

(Received July 23, 11 a.m.) VANCOUVER, July 21

The Komagata Maru is now getting steam up for her departure, which has been delayed pending the loading of provisions and medicines, which have been given the Hindus through the Canadian Government's generosity. The cruiser Rainbow will convoy the Komagata Maru out for a considerable distance.

No word has been heard of the second Hindu ship which was reported as coming from India. Whether it has returned or is lurking along the coast is unknown.
