TAYLOR MEMORIAL DAY.

The members of the Women's Christian Temperance Union met yesterday afternoon at their rooms in Worcester Street, to commemorate the late Mr T. E. Taylor. The president, Mrs McCombs, presided o„ver a large gathering of members, including a number of representatives from country unions. The Rev. W. J. Williams delivered a spleudid memorial address, followed by a thoughtful and comprehensive paper on the life of Mr Taylor, given by Miss Roberts. She dwelt upon the wonderful force of character and activity in good causes shown by Mr Taylor, even from his earliest years, and the singlehearted devotion which put him at the head of the small and struggling Prohibition movement. His loyalty and love

fpr New Zealand, which He rated high above any chances of personal advancement, was also sympathetically sketched. Hearty applause greeted the paper. Eulogistic speeches were made by Mrs N. Lovell-Smith, ani Mrs Newton.'

perance Union expresses its gratitude that the Prime Minister's Licensing Amendment Bill has passed its second reading. It accepts it as a pleasing recognition of the fact that so far we have been labouring under an unjust handicap, and it hopes that the Bill will pass through both Houses, and so become law before the next poll. meeting further tenders its thanks to those members of Parliament who voted h.< favour of Mr Massey's Bill, and is specially pleased to note that three Christehureh members cast their votes with the "Ayes."
