EROSION AT HOKITIKA.

APPRECIATIVE RESOLUTION. Press Association. HOKITIKA, July 19. The Town Clerk has forwarded the following telegram to the 'Minister of Public Works, Wellington, regarding the sea encroachment: —"In order to correct an erroneous impression, caused by mistaken adverse criticism published, the Borough Council on Friday night passed a resolution of appreciation of your efforts and recognising that your engineers are doing all that can be done to protect the town. — (Signed) Perry, Mayor.'' Speaking to the resolution, the Mayor deprecated the statements that had appeared in certain newspapers in an attempt to make political capital. The Minister had rendered every assistance and the Government engineers were handling the position in the best manner under the circumstances. Councillors endorsed the statement of the Mayor, and the appreciative resolution was carried unanimously.
