Polil, the sergeant who has received 15 years' imprisonment, received a salary of £B4 per annum. He was employed as a clerk at the headquarters of the military engineer, and thus had access to the plans. Desiring money with a view to marrying, he sold the plans of the Pillau and Boyen fortresses to Colonel Basaroffc' for £25. Basaroff asked for plans of the fortifications at Heligoland, aud Borkum. Pohl secured sketches of them and arranged a meeting, but was arrested at the interview.
