WELLINGTON RACING CLUB, THE FIRST DAY. Press Association. WELLINGTON, July 15. The Wellington Racing Club's Winter Meeting was opened at Trentham to-day in cold, wintry weather, but fortunately only one light shower of rain .fell during the afternoon. The racing was of a high-class order, and, considering the large fields which contested the jumping events, falls were few, only two horses, Sportsman and Antarctic, coming to grief, the latter breaking his neck. The going was very heavy, as will be. seen by the times recorded. There was a large attendance, and the sum of £34,146 10/- was put through the totalisator, as compared with £25.577 10/- for the corresponding day last year. Concluding results:— WINTER HURDLES of 600 sovs; second 70 sovs, and third 50 sovs from stake. Two miles. ' 2 T. Byrne's b f Immensity, by Multifid—lmmenschikoff, 4yrs, 9.9,' car. 9.12| <F.
