LICENSED VICTUALLERS' BALL.

A BRILLIANT SUCCESS. Even the most critical-minded of individuals would have found it hard to say anything except in praise of the ball held under the auspices of the Licensed Victuallers' Association in the Alexandra Hall last night, so perfect and well-planned were the arrangements. Everything, down to the smallest detail that could, conduce to the p.'easure or comfort of guests, had been thought of, and planned for, and the result was brilliantly successful. The I all-room looked like a scene from fairy land, with its festoons of electric lights, shaded and arranged in such a fashion as to give the effect of rows of i'.Juminative pink flowers. This, by the way, was the work of Turnbull and Jones, the gas effects in the supper room being the work of the local Gas Company. The ball room was further decorated with palms and bunting, and the stage, which the musicians occupied, was arranged with an arch of the pinkshaded electric lights, and decorated with beautiful pot plants. The sittingcut places, drawing room, and lounge were also prettily decorated. The music, by the way, was a special feature, Fox's band of five instruments being specially brought lrc m Wanganui for the occasion. The. music was quite perfection, and was from such favourite recent operas as "The Pink Lady," ".The Dancing Mistress," "The Girl on the Film," "Gypsy Love," "The Count of Luxembourg," "The Arcadians," and so on. During the excellent champagne supper, for which P. Burke and Co. catered, a band was stationed in the supper room, and the tempting viands were discussed tc the strains of music equally tempting. The supper tables were beautified v»ith scarlet berries and tinted leaves, and the buffet table was similarly decorated. The members of the committee, and notably the secretary (Mr L*. Nordon) were indefatigable in look ing after the comfort and enjoyment of their-guests, and if one might judge by appearances at all, they succeeded admirably.
