ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
DOUBLE DROWNING. Press Association. DUNEDIN, July 12. A •sad double drowning fatality occurred in the Mataura River. Mr Thos. F. Goldie, a farmer, of Wendonside," situated 28 miles from Gore, and his wife, visited Cattle Flat, seven miles from" Wendonside on Thursday evening. They stayed with friends , and left at midnight on Friday in their trap. They had to ford the Mataura. A party j>£ young men, including, two of -Mr Goldie's stepsons, while on their way to Balfour to play football on Saturday afternoon, found the trap smashed on the river bank and the horse loose. A search was made, and the body of Mr Goldie was found one hundred yards below the ford in a paddock about twenty yards from the river. Mrs Goldie's body was found a mile below the ford in a pool of the river. Each was between forty and fifty years of age. ■
