CANTERBURY CHAMPIONSHIPS.

Plenty of good sport is promised at the Canterbury amateur boxing championships tournament, to be held by the Christchurch Sports Club in the Theatre Royal this evening arid to-morrow evening. From the list of entries there should be 22 bouts in the two evenings. Particularly interesting should be the contest for the welter-weight championship. E. M'Minn, last year's champion, has entered again, but there are at least two other formidable competitors, J. Penrose, light-weight champion last year, arid J. Sloan, who. has improved considerably lately. The bantam-weight division should also prove of more than ordinary interest. One of the competitors in that class will be G. Gunn, the clever little Timaru boxer. MEETING OF EXECUTIVE. An executive meeting of the Christchurch Sports Club was held on Saturday evening to complete all arrangements for the Canterbury Championships, to be held to-night and to-morrow night. There were present: Messrs E. Nor don (chairman), W. G. Atack, T. E. Robson, A. Dickson, H. J. Carlton, and H. Gould (secretary). The secretary reported having received the permit from the.police to hold the championships, and also that the competitors from Timaru, Ashburton, Kaiapoi, Kirwee, and Coalgate had arrived. Arrangements had been made to have them medically examined previous to the first day of the championships. The following officials were requested to act: —Referee and announcer, Mr T; E. Robson; judges, Messrs C. T. Aschman and H. Marsh; time referees, Messrs A. J. Carlton and R. Bennett; scales stewards, Messrs Grierson and A. Kirk; competition stewards, Messrs W. G. Ataek and E. Nordon; costume steward, Mr W. G. Atack; ring steward, Mr R. Evans. It was agreed to hold An executive meeting on Thursday, July 16, to select the Canterbury team for the New Zealand championships at Wanganui. The team will leave Christchurch on Monday, July 20. Mr T. E. Robson was requested to act as manager of the teatn. The secretary reported that the draw for the championship had been completed and handed to the Programme Committee for publication.
