AMATEUR ATHLETICS.

A HUNDRED YARDS RACE. During the half-time interval in the Christehurch-Merivale senior match on Saturday the Canterbury Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association got off a hundred yards race on the oval at Lancaster Park. Originally the race was intended to be of 100 metres, but for some reason that wa« altered to yards. Nine runners started, and they provided a very fine race, only inches separating them at the finish. E. E.' "l.)c Rago, starting from the Iyd mark, just won, with VV. It. Down, Iyd, second. The other competitors were: A. H. Khouri scr, W. S. Pratt Ivd, W. J. Barnett 2yds, M. O. Barnett 2yds, C. R. Sinclair 4yds, J. M'Gettrick syds, W. J. Taylor 9yds. Considering that the track was heavy, the time recorded, 11 l-ssee, was creditable.

The project of holding one of-these races every Saturday is a decidedly good one. Another will be held in the half-time interval next Saturday, and entries will close at 8 p.m. on Thursday.
