MEMORIAL TABLET UNVEILED.
| THE LATE MR F. H. BARNES. In St. Michael's Church last—night, Canon Bean unveiled a memorial tablet to the late Mr F. H. Barnes, who for many years was an office-bearer of the church. Canon Bean, in his address, took for his text "The Power of Endless Life," and said that no person had been raised from the grave except through the medium of Jesus Christ, and the only one who had become immortal was Christ. Death was but the beginning of a life that should be purer and brighter, and no one should dread the passing away of their ; Christian
friends, as it was only stepping into* a fuller and brighter life.
The tablet is one which has been erected by deceased's five children, who wished to perpetuate 'the memory -of their father. The Dean, in referring to it, said that New Zealand was not like the Old Country, where there were memorials without number. New Ze'a--
land did not possess many great memorials, but he hoped that those -which, had been erected showed, the same loving spirit as the one he had unveiled that night. . >
