The Federal wireless station picked up, at a distance of 2300 miles, a message from the Dutch liner Van Cloon, which is ashore at Salonga, Straits Settlements, in a dangerous position. A steamer has been sent from Batavia to her assistance. [The Van Cloon is a steel screw steamer, 4519 tons, fitted for oil fuel. She was built at Amsterdam in 1911 by the Netherlands Shipbuilding Company for the Royal Packet Steam Navigation Co. She is fitted with electric light and wireless and flies the Dutch flag. Her principal dimensions are: —Length, 383 ft 6in; breadth, 48ft 6in; depth, 26ft Sin. Ships of her line trade from Australia to Java and Singapore.]
