SCHOOL COMMITTEES.
EAST CHKISTCHURCH. The usual meeting of the. committee was held on Monday evening last. Present: Messrs A. F. Drayton (in the chair), Newman, Peverill, Borrows, Allard, Grummitt, Harvey, Jamieson, and Sapsford. The usual monthly reports were received from the head teachers, and were of a satisfactory nature.
Application was received from Miss Menzies for two weeks' leave of absence, on account of illness, which was granted. Miss Peele tendered her resignation as a teacher in the Main Infants' School, having accepted a position at New Brighton.
It was decided to heat two of the class rooms at the Main School with slow combustion stoves, the matter being left, in the hands of the chairman and Mr Allard to arrange.
It was agreed -to ask the board to arrange with the Technical College to give up possession of the class room at 'South Belt by July 1 next, and in reference to the vacancy at Phillipstown School it was decided to recommend the board to appoint Miss Stevenson to the position as assistant mistress. Misses Jamieson and Newman were appointed to constitute the Visiting Committee for the next four weeks.
The householders in districts which failed to elect school committees in April met on Monday evening. Committees were elected for the following schools: —
Domett. —Chairman of meeting, Mr P. Hughes. Committee elected: Messrs M. H. Crampton, R. Crampton, P. Murphy, J. M'Adam, J. M. Pritchard, T. E. King, P. Hughes; chairman, Mr P. Hughes;
Spotswood.—Roll number, 36; average attendance, 31. Credit balance, £3 11/4. Number of householders present, 10. Chairman of meeting, Mr A. A. Down. Committee elected: Messrs J. W. Walmsley, A. A. Down, A. D. Fraser, A. G. Harrison, S. E. Pettengill, Thos. Stevenson, A. Craighead; chairman, Mr Thos. Stevenson.
Irwell. —The following committee was elected: —Messrs Wm. Henderson (chairman), R. Duff, C. Skinner, H. Grieves, H. Millar, J. Malcolmson, J. Pollock. Kirikiri. —A. Cederman (chairman), H. Waterman, H. Martin, E. Purchas, and J. Carson were elected to the committee. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mr F. Gilchrist for his many years' service as chairman of the committee.
