ELECTRIC LIGHT FOR CASHMERE.

To the Editor of THE SUN.

Sir, —In your issue of the 9th I read a report of a letter to the City Council by Mr G. M. Hall, seeking information regarding the price of electricity to Cashmere Hills residents. Mr Scott seems to have a down on Mr Hall, I can safely say that what Mr Hall done is for the benefit of the people of Cashmere. The Heathcote County Council, of which MrfSeott is chairinan, had no right to go and put Cashmere to the expense of an electric plant without the sanction or request of the ratepayers, when the work they have "in hand, costing nearly £20,000, is incomplete and seems to have" been a bungle from the start. Mr Scott seems to be the stumbling block to the progress of the work. I think it is nearly time Mr Scott was out of both councils, as he may try and treat Christehurch. in. the same way as he has treated Cashmere. It is something like two years since the loan was passed, and the work is not finished yet. The people of Thorrington nearly have to get a boat to get to .their front doors on wet days, and on fine days the houses are filled with dust. I think- Mr Hall is moving in the right direction, and possibly will be the means of having things brought to a head. —I am, etc., RATEPAYER.
