FIRE AT ST. ALBANS.
At about 8.45 last night Mr W. Parks noticed that a house in Thornton Street, St. Albans, was on fire, and at once gave the alarm. The brigade arrived promptly, but notwithstanding the quickness with which the brigade turned out the fire had got too strong a hold and there was no possibility of saving the building. The house was one of six rooms, owned by Mrs Overend and occupied by Mr J. Overend, and was insured for £3OO. The furniture was insured in the Atlas office for £l5O, and there was an additional insurance on the piano of £SO Mrs Overend left the house at about 7 p.m., and at that time there was a small fire in the kitchen range, and it is believed that the fire originated in that part of the house.
