A. & P. ASSOCIATION.

TO-DAY'S MEETING. The Northern A. and P. Association held a meeting this morning at Rangiora, the president (Mr K. M 'lntosh) ing in the chair. The Rangiora High School applied for financial * assistance for carrying on classes of benefit to the farming community, and it was decided to make a donation of ten guineas.-

It was decided to "grant the Literary and Debating Society's application for thp use. of the association's hall, at a rental of ;>/■ per night. The secretary of the Associated Agricultural' Societies of New Zealand asked the association to appoint its delegates to the conference to be held at the end of July.—The president and Mr A. Clarkson were appointed. It was decided to inform the Balcairn School Committee,- which wrote asking for free passes for school children to the forthcoming show, that the most liberal treatment would be extended to school childrteii. It was also deckled that members of. the association should be given ladies' tickets admitting to the show on opening day, and that tickets for the second- day should be issued to ladies, and to children up to 16 years of age. The members of the previous show committees were all reelected for the coming, fc'how, with the exception of Mr Rutherford, who retired from the Ground Committee and was replaced "by Mr Cowlishaw.

It was decided to donate one gilkiea to the Poultry Association, and it was decided to hold the ploughing match as usual this year. Mr T. R. Cresswell suggested that if the association's subscription for juvenile members was reduced it -would result in a much augmented membership. -

Mr A. S. Clarkson moved that the subscription for members under 18 years of age be 5/-,-and from 18 to'2l-years 10/-. The motion - was; referr-ed to - theGeneral Committee. -

Mrs C. C. Paterson has .been elected cairtain of the,-Lakes ', Golf Club. The monthly medal fpf. Junc, presented by the captain, .will be played for on Saturday next., June 13. The.Rangiora Literary and Debating Society held their first meeting of the year last evening, Mr T. W. Ambrose, 8.A., presiding. There was a large attendance, and six new members were elected. A vote of condolence was passed to Mr A. Murdock on the loss of his wife.

The first debate proved to be an excellent one for discussion, "That Great Britain is producing a higher type of man and womanhood than New Zealand. " Mr C. -Margraves and Mr R. Bell took the affirmative side, which was opposed bv Mr S. S. Black and Mr J. VV. Sinclair.'

The subject brought forth a most animated discussion, the speakers in every instance exceeding the time 'limit) and se many present going In ,the debate that the meeting had to be extended an extra half hour. The editor, Mr S. S. Black, kindly offered the society two book prizes for the test composition on ''Journal" night. .

STOCK SALE. At the Rangiora sale to-day a yarding ,of , approximately 4000 Sheep.'.came forward. Quite three-quarters of the entry were'in the fat pens.
