" STATUE CAUSES TROUBLE
" "Times" and "Sydney Sun" Services. (■Received June 3, 8 a.m.) LONDON, June 2. . On Whit Monday a pageant and profession of the Catholic guilds at Preston was refused permission to carry a statue of the Madonna and Child. Those in charge of the procession persisted, believing that'they had a, legal right. & A crowds surged -round', and orangeSj eggs,, and stones were.thrown. One man who tried to overthrow the statue was knocked down. Cries of "Booh, booh!" were drowned fey the enthusiastic demonstration by the majority of the spectators.
