LATE SHIPPING.

Two arrivals in port yesterday -were the schooner Eliza. Firth and the brigantine Aratapu, both from Kaipara, which port was left at 2.45 p.m. last Thursday. It proved an interesting race, and it was anticipated that the Aratapu would prove the winner. However, these expectations were ' not realised,' for the Eliza Firth arrived at the Heads at 8.30 a.m., the trip thus occupying .65 hours 45 minutes. The Aratapu did not put in ah appearance at the Heads till 12.5 p.ml, or three.hours 35 minutes behind the Eliza Firth. The Union Company's s.s. Poherua ,will leave Westport. to-night for Lyttelton arid Timawt.

The Kowhai leaves Dunedin to-morrow for Oamaru and Timaru, thence proceeding to Lyttelton, from which port she will take.her departure on Friday, instead of Thursday (as previously notified) for Napier and Gisborne. The. Taviuni is expected to leave Lyttelton for Timaru to-night. The new steamer now being built for the Orient Line by John Brown. and Co., Clydebank, is to be called the Ormonde. The Warrimoo, on arrival at Lyttelton from Auckland, via East Coast ports, on July 1, will continue to Dunedin as usual, remaining in the Dun-edin-Auckland service meantime. MISSING.
