DROVERS' UNION.

A meeting of drovers called by the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Labourers' Union was held in the Trades Hall on Saturday evening for the purpose of forming a drovers' union, or joining the above union. Mr P. Ellis was voted to the chair. The chairman. outlined the objects of the meeting and asked for an expression of opinion from the drovers present. After some* discussion, the secretary (Mr E. Kennedy), addressed the meeting, pointing out the advantages to be gained by the drovers being united with and being members of a strong organisation such as he represented, which now practically covered all New Zealand from the North Gape to the Bluff. The opinion was freely expressed that the best interests of the drovers would be conserved by joining the union now in existence. Every speaker emphasised the absolute necessity of something being done. The secretary was instructed to get into communication with as many drovers as possible and to advertise another meeting in the leading papers for Saturday, June 13. The meeting then adjourned till that date.
