John Finley appeared charged with being found drunk on Saturday. He had an 'alias, Fleming, and a cut over on© eye. ''This man has been drinking methylated said Sub-Inspector M J Kinnon. '' He's in a very bad state, and his hands and face are cut about. He would be better remanded for a week, your Worship.'' The Magistrate agreed. "It's nao use letting him at large if he's been drinking that stuff," he said. Accused was accordingly remanded for a week to get the spirit out of his system. STRENUOUS POLITICS. Sydney Workman, a dapper youth, was charged with having assaulted Walter Johnston on Saturday night. Mr Donnelly appeared for Workman. Nonstable Hislop gave evidence to the effect that he had' seen accused go up to Johnston in the company of three other men. He said, "You'Te one of the Massey crowd," to which Johnston replied that he had better go away as he did not know him. Accused then hauled off and struck Johnston, felling him to the fpotpath. •i' * f They were keen evidently," said Mr ■ Bishopry' 'TEiese' 'assaults are very annoying. There; was no excuse at all.' I shall fine him 60/- or X>ne month.' Charles Neison, 'apparently"of a spotting disposition, was charged with having stolen two .greyhounds valued at £lO, the property of William Archer. LYTTELTON. (Before Messrs L. and A. Stringei and W. C.. Clary, J.P.'s.) At the Lyttelton Magistrate's Court this morning, a prohibition order waa granted .against a man on the application of a friend.
