SWIMMING.

LINWOOD CLUB'S SOCIAL.

The members of the Linwood Amateur Swimming Club held their first annual social gathering on Friday evening in the Rolleston Street Hall, there being a goodly gathering of swimming men present. Mr G. W. Russell, M.P., was in the chair, supported by Mr Geo. Scott (president) and Mr W,. Whitta (patron). There were many representatives of kindred clubs present, and a very pleasant evening was spent in song and story, amongst those contributing to the harmony being Messrs G. W.- Russell, W.. Whitta, -Greg. Russell, H. Harrington, E. Armstrong, J. H. .Knudson, and J. Manelaus. Mr R. Hobbs ably presided at the piano. During the evening a lengthy toast list was honoured. In proposing the toast of the evening the chairman congratulated the club on its Success during the past season and on the fact of 45 new members having been added, the total now standing at 85. At a suitable opportunity Mr Russell presented the prizes and trophies won during the year, the recipients being:—

The following members of the club were successful at the Richmond Inter-club Carnival in winning the 50yds liiter-club Relay Race, C. Johnson; and at the East Christchurch Carnival the 133 l-3yds Relay, A. Boon, W. Jones, A. J. Flanagan, and C. Johnson.
