MEETING OF GOVERNORS. ' The 1 Board of Governors of Canterbury College held its usual monthly meeting this afternoon, there' being present: Mr. J. C. Adams (chairman), Bishop Grimes, Messrs C. H. Qpie, T. H. Davey, M.P., G. Rennie,. W. H. Montgomery, •,S. Hurst Seagar, T. Hughes, T. W. Adams, G. ,J. Smith,. M. Dalziel, W. ■Brock, and Dr Westenra. Jennings had resigned his position as. the representative of Canterbury 'College on ; the; High Schotil Board, and : _ that. ■'Mr;.' Stevenson should 'be appointed to the vacancy.— The .appointment of Mr Stevejiso'n was agreed to. . The Director. of the School of Art made application. for -the extension of buildings .owing, to there being insufficient accommodation," Room was required for the lectures on elementary drawing to primary., school teachers.^ — It was resolved, to refer the request to the Library . Committee with a recommendation to the sub-conunittee to' elaborate the details regarding the alterations proposed. ;

COLLEGE COMMITTEE'S REPORT.

. The College Committee's recommendations, as follow, were approved: —

(.1) That the Professorial Board, in conjunction with the students, tie given permission to hold a congratulatory ceremony for the graduates of the year, in the College Hall on the evening of June 18. (2) That 12 months' leave of absence, during the session 1915, be granted to Professor W. P. Evans, to enable him to visit Europe and America with tlie object of getting a better insight into the more modern methods of applied chemistry, such leave to be on full pay less half the cost of providing a suitable substitute. (3) That 12 months' leave of absence, from June 1 next, be granted to Miss Crosby on account of ill-health, and that she be paid full salary for the first ;six t months and halfsalary' for the remaining six months of her leave.

The committee also reported: (1) Having approved: of the recommendations made by" Professor : W. P. Elans' for carrying on tho work of his chair, during his absence'. " (2) 'Having- approved of the suggestion of the LadyPrincipal of the Girls' High School that the services of Miss Dorothy Bone (who acted as substitute for Miss Crosby during the last three - weeks of the first term) be retained during the absence of Miss Crosby, at a salary at the rate of £l3O per annum, from June 1, 1914. The committee recommended: (1) That the position of demonstrator at the school' of engineering, rendered vacant by the resignation of Mr I. Dalmer, be advertised, at a commencing salary of £225 per annum. (2) That a special committee be set up to consider the appointment of the curator of the Museum as Lecturer on Geology at Canterbury College. The committee also reported: (1) Having accepted the tender of Francis Clark for the installation of electric light fittings at the Public Library, the price being £133 12/-. (2) Having accepted, the tender of Messrs Prestidge Bros. (£35 10/-) for the alterations in the circulating department of the Public Library. (3) Having granted to Mr H. Strong the privilege of free membership of the circulating department of the Public Library, in view of his past services as librarian. \ N (Proceeding.)
