PRIME MINISTER DELAYED. The Prime Minister (Right Hon. W. P. Massey), who was expected to arrive in Cliristchurch yesterday from Wellington, found at the last moment that he could not get away. He will leave Wellington this evening, and go straight through to the south. He is to deliver an address at Gore on Wednesday evening. The Minister of Finance (Hon. J. Allen) will also leave Wellington this evening for the south. MR WITTY AT WEEDONS. Mr G. Witty delivered another ,of his series of addresses to his Riecarton const ituents on Saturday evening in the Weedons Schoolroom, Mr M. Lair presiding over a good attendance. The speech was on the lines of those recently delivered at Papanui and, Upper Riecarton. Mr Witty repeated his allegation.that the Government represented a minority' of the electors, and held office simply through the faithlessness of certain members, who, returned as Liberals, had voted to put their own party out of power. He justified the stonewall on the Second Ballot Repeal Bill, and denounced ths chairman of " committees for throttling the discussion. The-Lib-erals would have been wanting in their duty to the country had they acted otherwise. Mr Massey had made no real attempt to settle the strike, and to saddle Sir Joseph Ward, with the responsibility for its continuance was a scandal. A motion of confidence in Mr Witty and in the Liberal-Party as led by Sir Joseph Ward, was carried unanimously.
