Messrs Matthew Purdon (Wellington), Fredk. Wrol (Sydney), and W. G. Rothill are staying at Coker's Hotel. The Rev. A. Mitchell and Mr John Young have been appointed trustees of the Lyttelton Cemetery. Mr F. W. Flanagan has been appointed a member of the Public Service Superannuation Board, in place of Mr J. Strauchon, 1.5.0., who has retired. The appointment of Mr Michael Myers as vice-consul for Denmark at Wellington, in place of Mr W. H. D. Bell, M.P., resigned, has been recognised by the Imperial Government. Among the visitors staying at the United Service Hotel are Messrs Sydney J. Smith (Hastings), Alf. Thompson (Wellington) and Mr and Mrs Kennedy (Wellington). Dr Eleanor S. Baker, , who is carrying out the medical examination of children in the public schools of Canterbury, arrived in town from the West Coast on Saturday. M. Haigh of the Magistrate's Court staff, Wellington; who has been transferred to Christchurch, was on Saturday morning presented by Mr W. G. Riddell, S.M., on behalf of his associates, with a cricket bat, suitably inscribed. Mr A. Thompson, of Auckland, president of the North Island Grand Lodge of Druids, and Mr J. N. Grant, of Wellington, grand secretary, arrived in Christchurch yesterday en route to Dunedin, where they will meet officers of the South Island Grand Lodge and discuss with them a proposal for amalgamation into one Grand Lodge for New Zealand. On Saturday evening Mr George Barnett, whose is about to pay a visit to England, was entertained at a social by; members of the Bakers' Union. There was a large attendance, over which Mr Sliillingsworth presided. Complimentary references were made by the chairman, Mr Lahe, and other speakers to : the good qualities of the guest of the evening whom Mr Tuck presented with a travelling bag.
