His contest with Mehegan was his first in Australia, and it is evident, from the fact that the decision was disputed, that he has "made good" with Australian fight-fans. At the same time, it is evident that Mehegan, although he got the decision, is on the ;down grade as a fighter.] M'GOORTY BEATS DUBOURG. MELBOURNE, May 24. M'Goorty . knocked out Dubourg in the fifth round. [Jules Dubourg is a French middleweight, clever as a boxer, but not formidable as a fighter. Dave Smith recently defeated Dubourg 011 points, and as Smith lias been knocked out thrice by M'Goorty it would have been surprising if M'Goorty had not disposed of Dubourg with some ease.] W. CURRAN TRIED-OUT. A couple of days ago W. Curran, the Hawke's Bay amateur featherweight, who is matched with J. Digby, of Ashburton, for the Ghristphurch Sports Club's tournament on June 2, was given a "try-out" at A. Willoughby's boxing rooms. Curran was pitted with four Christchurch amateurs, and he boxed 10 rounds in all.' He gave a clever exhibition, in which he showed good footwork, and he finished comparatively fresh. The Digby-Curran contest should be a good and even one. \
