Regarding the fruit industry in New Zealand, the "Evening Post" gathers that in five years' time from to-day the output of orchards in the dominion will be a million and a-half cases, and this will be enormously increased each year thereafter. The estimated area to be planted in commercial orchards during the coming season of 1914, in different districts, is as follows:—Whangarei 35 acres, North Auckland 350, South Auckland 55, Auckland suburbs and Poverty Bay 25, Waikato and Bay of Plenty 43, Hawke's Bay 150," Taranaki 20, Manawatu and Wairarapa 60, Hutt 7, Marlborough 500, Nelson 1000, Christchurch suburbs 4, Nortlt Canterbury and Westland 200, South Canterbury 100, Otago and Southland 300. Total, 2849 acres. This will bring the estimated total acreage in fruit in New Zealand to 41,646, an increase of 12,759 acres iu the six years. Of this total increase the Nelson district contributes over one-third. Up to date the export of fruit from New. Zealand is in the neighbourhod of 85,000 cases, and it i? estimated that .the 100,000 mark will be reached before the close 'of the season.
