. CATHOLIC MISSiON'. The Catholic mission, wliich was opened here on Sunday, 10th inst., by the Rev. Father M'Carthy, S.M., will continue until Sunday next, when similar v..*., missions will be held in the Loburn, . Kaiapoi, and Oxford districts. Great enthusiasm has - prevailed ■ • amoiig the community, there being largo - - attendances at each .exercise, morning masses at 7 and 9.30, being attended by 150 at each, the great majority of whom received holy communion. ■ ' An instruction follows these masses, . while in the evening, to a crowded congregation, the principal duties and practices of Christian law are ably and eloquently expounded by the Rev. A special solemnity, which excited the greatest enthusiasm, was witnessed last night in honour of the "blessed Eucharist. The altar was specially decorated, and after a discourse on the "Real Presence" ; a procession of the btessed parish confraternities parti<;ipateai { ,was conducted' round the 1 churfthj' * J appropriate hymns being- suiig;' '' '■ "•" Next Sunday, evening service at 7 o 'clock will bring the mission to a close by ihe imposing ceremony of renewals of baptismal vows. Each member of the congregation holding a lighted taper renews his vows, after which the Papal blessing is imparted.
