NORTH CANTERBURY CENTRE.

At a meeting last evening, of th 6 Committee of the North Canterbury Centre of the New Zealand Athletic and.Cycling Union there were present: Messrs M. Dixon (chairman), R. S. Pearson, J. A. Mealings, L. G. BlackWell,"R. Hayes, A. J. Barritt, J. Cairns, and 6. S. Simpson (secretary). DARFIELD RpAD RACE.

The centre was informed that the Darfield Road Race, which was to have been held on April 25, had been postponed owing to the Territorial encampment, and the date on which it would be held would be decided upon later. A RUNNER REPRIMANDED. The case, of a Rakaia runner who had been reported to the centre on a charge of having furnished an incorrect list of "performances for the Dunsandel Sports, at which he won. prizes, was again before the centre. The matter had been under consideration before, but was referred to the chairman to take such action as he deemed necessary after comparing the list of ances furnished by the runner in question with a correct list.

The chairman stated that in making this comparison he found that the list of performances furnished was correct as far as the distance events were concerned, but there were two discrepancies —not very important—in the shorter distances. He had given the man an opportunity of making an explanation, which was to the effect that the list ha'd been furnished from memory. In the circumstances, he (the chairman) considered that a severe reprimand would meet the case, and that the prize-money, which had been withheld by the Dunsandel. Club until the centre's decision was known,' could now be paid over. He thought, however, that all who centered for-races should keep a proper record of their performances; . and not rely upon memory. AN ENQUIRY. The Kaiapoi Cycling Club requested the centre to hold an enquiry into the withdrawal of H. H. Gibson and A. Bonis from the club's intended ride in the Dunlop relay test. These two riders afterwards were included in the Marshlands Club's team, which secured second place in the test. . Mr J. A. Mealings, who is secretary of the Kaiapoi Club, explained that the Kaiapoi Club had made complete arrangements to start its/ride in the test at 12.30 p.m. on April 18. About 10.15 a.m. on that day he received intimation that Gibson and Bonis were withdrawing from the team. The club had gone-to some trouble and expense in arranging for the ride,-and several members of the team had obtained leave of absence for the'day to enable them to ride. In consequence of the withdrawals the elub had to abandon its effort in the test. It was . decided that an enquiry, as requested, be held on Saturday, May 16, at 8 p.m. NON-ATTENDANCE. Non-compliance with, the rule regarding attendances at centre meetings caused the committee to declare the seats of the delegates of the Christchurch Cycling, Fendalton, Linwood, United, Okain's Bay, Swifts, Marsh-

lands, Kirwee, and Barry Bay Clubs vacant, and these clubs therefore-ii^ill ! need to elect new delegates in accordance with the rules. A DOMINION RECORD. The committee passed on to the New Zealand Union a recommendation that P. (Jumbo) Wells's recent performance of lmin 26 l-ssec for one mile motorpaced cycling, flying start, be recognised as a Dominion. record, the regulations having been eomplied with in the ride. -V s DUNLOP RELAY TEST. The centre decided to write to theDunlop Rubber Company expressing its> appreciation of the company 's 'assistance in the furtherance of sport by the holding of its ; 100-mile relay and congratulating it on the success of the undertaking. A SPORTS MEETING. Mr Pearson gave notice that at the aunual meeting of the eentre he would' move a motion recommending the centreto hold, a sports meeting in Christchurch.
