SCHOOL COMMITTEES.

ANNUAL MEETINGS. OASHMEEE HILLS SCHOOL. The annual meeting of householders of this district was held on Monday -evening, and, was very well attended. Mr Cannon was voted to the chair. The report of the outgoing edmmitte'e stated that during the year they had been, enabled to purchase a piano for the use of the school, through, the generosity of the residents, to whom they -tendered their sincere and hearty thanks. They had prevailed upon -the Education Department, through the Board of Education, to buy additional land for the playground, which was urgently needed, owing td the rapidly increasing attendance, and which would "be greatly appreciated by everyone interested in the school.

The following committee was elected: Mrs R. Speight, and Messrs Currie (chairman), M'Crostie, Andrews (hon. secretary), Lang, Duff, and Cannon. A vote of thanks to the chairman and the outgoing committee was carried by acclaniat^on. The Bible reading i,n schools question produced a very interesting discussion. A motion favouring a referendum vote on the matter was ultimately lost.

The motion framed by the School Committees' Association,"; dealing with the unfavourable conditions under which children are taught in some of our schools was ventilated, and while satisfaction was expressed in respect to the .arrangements at that particular school, a motion sympathising with committees in other districts less favourably situated was carried. v
