ADDINGTON MARKETS.

A FAIRLY BIG SALE.

Though the entry of store sheep showed a large decline at Addington to-day, several of the other departments, notably fat sheep, were yarded in more than average numbers. The store sheep sale ladked the briskness that has characterised this branch of the market of late. Fat lambs sold very well, but beef was neglected. STOEE SHEEP. The yarding was much below even that of last week, when a little over 14,000 head were yarded. The quality for the most part was very poor indeed, a big proportion of the entry being drawn from outside/the province, chiefly from the North Island, and evidently the dealers have the north fairly well cleaned out of sheep, as the quality put forward of late from this quarter has been very indifferent. There was an absence of the buoyancy that has ruled lately, and though a good sale resulted, buyers were less inclined to pay the enhanced prices for poor quality sheep that they paid three weeks ago. Good class sheep sold quite as readily as they did three and four weeks ago. . The range of values was as follows: —

Good rape lambs, 12/6 to 13/9. Extra good rape lambs to 14/7. Medium rape lambs, 10/1 to 11/7. Smaller sorts, 9/- to 9/9. Cull lambs, 4/3 to 7/1. Ewe lambs, 13/2 to 17/7. "Wether lambs, 13/6. With the cold weather setting in feed is becoming scarce, and the result is that growers have to quit their lambs. This fact was demonstrated to-day by an unusually big yarding of lambs, many of which were hardly up to export requirements, and were for the most part on the light side. Exporters were operating freely, and values were firm at about the same as last week. The axerage price per lb was as follows: — Prime, s|d. Light and second quality, sgd.
